BACKGROUND: After retiring to Florida in 2013, in 2021 I ended up on a tiny property with nine Palm Trees, some over 25' tall. What a MESS THEY WERE !!!!! The former owner had not touched them in years. I hired a crew to come in and clean them up, trim them and get them ready for Hurricane Season. Almost $1,000 ( but they also got them in great shape and hauled away a Mountain of Palm Tree $#%&, so just one of those "Joys" of home ownership. I thought: "Now I will be able to 'maintain' them". I just needed a pole saw... **SHOPPING**: I looked and looked all over on-line ( HD, Lowe's, Ace, Amazon and some specialty lawn&garden websites ). It took some looking. I had been told Exactly what to get, including that it HAD to have the short 'Claw' at the bottom of the curved blade !!!. I finally settled on the 14' Hooyman Extendable 3-Section Tree Saw. I have used it for six months now and it just WORKS and WORKS REALLY WELL !!!!! The pole extends easily, but is still solid enough that I can easily slice off some really big 3" stuff, sometimes in just 3 or 4 sharp pulls with the blade ( and Palm Trees are TOUGH ) !!! THE BLADE: That Curved Blade, Hook at the Tip and 'Claw' at the bottom is CRAZY GOOD !!!! AMAZING !!!! Really Sharp, it is Stainless Steel and doesn't Rust !!!! The Teeth have just the right Shapes and Sets, for what I need and it seems to be holding up VERY WELL - Still Razor Sharp after 40 ? - 50 ? Cuts through Heavy Palm ( 50 Lb Seed "Pods", palm fronds, branches ? stalks ? - I don't know the names ), but all of the other $#%& that these trees throw off monthly !!!! Awful, Filthy, Messy Trees - GREAT POLE SAW !!!! Can't say enough about HOW GOOD IT HAS BEEN !!!! I've had (cheap) lopping/pruning pole saws in the past - all pretty much junk. THIS SAW IS ***FANTASTIC***. I'm sorry that replacement blades are not offered, but ( IF ) mine eventually gets to where it is taking a lot more work to cut, I will take it to a Pro and let them re-sharpen it !!!! - Don -I keep this in my car because we live in the mountains and if trees go down it gives me a way to be able to solve branches and get through. It’s small and compact and does not rely on gas or electric and only manpower. You’re not gonna cut through a huge tree but he might be able to get through some branches to help you move through. So light, and the shape really gives it strength. I've used a lot of crappy fiberglass saws and I'll never go back. Love the soft case for the blade. I'll buy more Hooyman stuff based on how good this saw is.I got the 10ft pole saw this thing is great for reaching branches higher off the ground and it’s collapsible I cut branches up to 2 1/2 inches thick standing from the ground that were 14ft off the ground the only thing I wish was that the saw blade was 10 inches instead of 8 inch but it still works greatJust like the title says the blade is very shape my fingers will prove it. It’s not as light weight as I would of expected, but the saw does the job. I bought the 10ft to pack in my hunting bag but it’s a little too big for that.Used this to get some tree limbs off our power line. Worked well. So, I went to pruning other trees. Had a Hackberry that had split and was threatening to crush a fence. Limbed it first and then cut through the trunk which was maybe 6" dia. Then I attacked the Hackberry over the camper. These nasty trees grow really fast and expel this nasty black stuff all over everything. Useless tree. I was able to give that tree a severe hair cut and get the branches cut farther back.Today I am headed out to help a friend with and Oak. Most of it will be chainsaw work, but some above the house will need trimming. He asked me if I had gotten my pole saw I had ordered, and how well it had performed. He asked me if it was running? Told him that it runs all day long, fuel is not a problem. He asked if the blade was still sharp? Told him those Hackberry's are real soft wood and didn't dull it a bit. He asked how far it would reach? Bout 14 foot and whatever your body height is. He offered to buy oil and gas for it, told him don't bother. Won't be needing either. He said "I thought you said your pole saw was running?"......I said "Yes, it is....all day long, as long as YOU can keep sawing!" ...............LOL! He's headed to the store to buy another 10" bar and chain for his electric pole saw. Guess he just won't take my word for how well this saw actually cuts. The saw is lightweight but with that comes the flimsiness of a poor fit and finish it has weight in the wrong places like right behind the blade which is shaped like a handle as if you're going to use a pole saw while holding it right behind the blade. What appears to be impulse hardening of the teeth is uneven and although they claim the material is sk5 the markings are nowhere on the actual steel. The set of the teeth which cut a keef wider than the blade should allow the blade to easily move within the cut. This is not the case with this saw and the set of the teeth is inconsistent. Above All things a saw should be Sharp and the sharpness of these teeth leaves something to be desired and cuts requiring more strokes. The sickles at the beginning and end of the saw are also not Sharp which is important when finishing a cut so you can slice the bark to avoid cambium rip out, a leading cause of tree disease in death. You might consider buying a pro saw from sthil, notch or silky or save your money for a professional who will bring the right tools for the job.El color en que llegó la sierra Hooyman extensible fue un color verde limón, cuando lo escogí por su color verde militar /camo. además una de las patitas que sujetan la hoja con el cuerpo desplegable llegó rota, así que ahora ,para mantenerlo unido tengo que usar una cinta elástica. La sierra se ve de buena calidad.Parfait pour ma vieille pole hooyman 15 ' qui est un modèle d'une douzaine d'année.Excellent for first season, but over the year the extendable arm stopped locking into place making it very difficult to use.Great concept, wish the blade was a little longer and curved as opposed to straight. Longer you extend, the more flimsy it is. It works as advertised but pretty flimsy after a season of usewhen used properly this will do the job.
