I wanted a freewheel with 28 that would fit on my early 70s Phil Wood hub. I had tried, unsuccessfully, to find a 6-speed that would fit. There is a model that should fit, A Sun Tour "Ultra" with 5 mm sprocket spacing, and I did buy one on line, but it turned out not to be the Ultra 6 so I had to return it (different seller). I found this product, a 14-28 5-speed and it fits well. Not only that, it has the "newer" sprockets with the grooves to help engage the chain on the target gear, while still partially on the drive gear making shifting smoother. So, I think I have the best alternative - a 5-speed that shifts smooth, and truthfully, that is plenty of gears for this bike. And BTW, I'm using a pat. 84 Campy Nuovo Record RD without an extender and it works fine. I don't plan to use that gear while on the large chain wheel in front much, if at all. But having the 28 to use with the granny (a 42) is nice to have when the hill gets steep. Also, I only ride this bike on short rides (<20 miles) for show.
